Materials:

1 skein of Natural Cotton Maxcolor 4/6 (400 g / 14.1 oz) in the following color:

8990 (Black)

1 skein of Duna (100 g / 3.5 oz) in the following color:

7684 (Porcelain)

E-4 (3.5 mm) crochet hook;

Scissors;

Measuring tape;

Tapestry needle;

Universal glue.

Yield: 1 skein of Natural Cotton Maxcolor 4/6 (400 g / 14.1 oz) makes 2 placemats.

Instructions:

Placemat: With Natural Cotton Maxcolor 4/6 in Black, Ch 16 + 3 ch to turn.

R1: Work 6 dc in the 4th ch from hook (same st), 14 dc, 7 dc in the same st, continue on the opposite side of the foundation chain with 14 dc. Close with a sl st.

R2: Ch 3, 1 dc in same st, 6 dc inc, 14 dc, 7 dc inc, 14 dc. Close with a sl st.

Continue following diagram 1, working in rounds until R10. Fasten off.

Ears: Attach Natural Cotton Maxcolor 4/6 in Black to the top edge of the piece as shown in Diagram 1.

R11: Ch 3, 8 dc.

R12: Ch 3, dc2tog, 3 dc, dc2tog, 1 dc.

R13: Ch 3, dc2tog, 1 dc, dc2tog, 1 dc.

R14: Ch 3, dc4tog, fasten off.

Work the second ear, leaving a space of 10 sts between them, as indicated in Diagram 1. Continue following the diagram, working in rounds. Fasten off.

Eyes: With Duna yarn in Porcelain, Ch 4 + 3 ch to turn.

R1: Work 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 sl st. Fasten off.

Make 2 eyes and glue them to the placemat as shown in the assembly diagram.

Surface Slip Stitch Embroidery: With Duna yarn in Porcelain, embroider the nose, ears, and whiskers following the assembly diagram. Hold the yarn under the piece, insert the hook between the sts of the base round, YO with the strand underneath, and pull it to the top to make a loop on the hook. Insert the hook into the next base st, YO, pull up a loop, and draw the new loop through the one on the hook. Repeat, following the diagram. Make 2 identical pieces.
