Charming Dress

BASED ON A BUST SIZE OF:

32–34, (36–38, 40–42, 44–46), 48–50 and 52–54 in /81–86, (91–96, 101–106, 111–117), 122–127 and 132–137 cm


Materials

• 2 (3, 3, 4), 4, 5 balls of Círculo Charme (433 yds / 396 m per 5.3 oz / 150 g), sample in color 7713

• Crochet hook D-3 (3 mm), or size needed to achieve gauge.

• Tapestry needle

• 1 Zipper 15.75 in / 40 cm in matching color

• (Optional): Fabric for lining, sewing needle and matching thread


GAUGE: 19 sts × 12 rows = 4 × 4 in / 10 × 10 cm in Pattern A (Chart 1)

Execution


PART 1 – BODICE (UPPER SECTION)

Start the dress at the waistline. Work both fronts and back simultaneously, crocheting back and forth.

Ch 120 (132, 144, 156), 168, 180.

Follow Pattern A – Chart 1 and work the following number of motifs row.

·         Row 1–3: 40 (44, 48, 52), 56, 60 motifs

·         Row 4–6: 44 (48, 52, 56), 60, 64 motifs, increasing 4 motifs evenly spaced on Row 4.


PART 2 – UPPER BODICE & NECKLINE

Work fronts and back separately. Decrease 1 motif on each side to shape armholes.

Left Back:

Continue following Pattern A – Chart 1:

·         Rows 7–14: 10 (11, 12, 13), 14, 15 motifs each.

·         Row 15: 5 (6, 7, 8), 9, 10 motifs; decrease 5 motifs to shape neckline.

·         Fasten off.

Right Back: 

Work as mirror of left back.

Front:Continue following Pattern A – Chart 1:

·         Row 7: 22 (24, 26, 28), 30, 32 motifs.

·         Rows 8–13: 20 (22, 24, 26), 28, 30 motifs each. Decrease 1 motif on each side on Row 8.

·         Work sides separately; leave the 10 (10, 12, 12), 14, 14 central motifs unworked for the neckline.

·         Rows 14 & 15: 5 (6, 7, 8), 9, 10 motifs each.

·         Fasten off.

Using a tapestry needle, sew shoulders for approximately 2.75 (3, 3.25, 3.5), 3.75, 4 in / 7 (7.5, 8, 9), 9.5, 10 cm.


PART 3 – WAIST SECTION

Join yarn at the foundation chain (waistline) on the left back. Work both fronts and back simultaneously, back and forth.

Rows 1–7: Follow

Pattern B – Chart 2, working 37 (41, 45, 49), 53, 57 motifs.


PART 4 – LOWER BODICE

Crochet both fronts and back simultaneously, back and forth.

Rows 1–6: Follow Pattern C – Chart 3, working 14 (15, 16, 17), 18, 19 motifs row.Make 3 rows in total.

At Row 6, join sides with 1 sl st.


PART 5 – SKIRT

Work front and back simultaneously in the round.

Follow Pattern D – Chart 4, repeating stitches and number of motifs row as follows:

·         Rows 4–5: 14 (16, 18, 20), 22, 24 motifs each

·         Rows 6–29: 16 (18, 20, 22), 24, 26 motifs each

End the skirt with 1 rnd of sc 160 (176, 192, 208), 224, 240 sts.

Fasten off and weave in ends.


SLEEVES (Make 2)

Ch 30 (34, 38, 42), 46, 50. Work in the round, starting at the cuff.

Follow Pattern A – Chart 1 and work:

·         Rows 1–3: 10 (11, 12, 13), 14, 15 motifs each

·         Row 4: 6 (7, 8, 9), 10, 11 motifs; decrease 2 motifs on each side.

·         Rows 5 & 6: 4 (5, 6, 7), 8, 9 motifs; decrease 1 motif on each side of Row 5.

·         Fasten off.

Using a tapestry needle, sew sleeves around armholes.


EDGING

Work 1 rnd in sc around sleeve cuffs, 54 (58, 62, 66), 70, 74 sc – and around neckline – 68 (72, 76, 80), 84, 88 sc.

Work 140 (144, 148, 152), 156, 160 sc around the zipper 70 (72, 74, 76), 78, 80 sc on each side).


FINISHING

Use the crochet dress as a template to cut and sew the fabric lining.

Sew lining around neckline and zipper edges.

Sew zipper to the back opening. Weave in all ends, wash and block to measurements.
