Execution
Front and Back – Worked together. Start from the right front shoulder. Make a foundation of ch46 (53, 54, 59, 66, 74) + ch3 to turn and work in fantasy stitch following the chart, repeating from to across the stitches.
Increase on the left side in each row:
S: 1 st (4x) and 2 sts (3x)
M: 1 st (4x) and 2 sts (3x)
L: 1 st (2x), 2 st (2x), and 3 sts (3x)
XL: 1 st (2x), 2 st (2x), and 3 sts (3x)
2XL: 2 st (3x), and 3 sts (4x)
3XL: 2 st (3x), and 3 sts (4x)
Once the increases are completed, set aside. Work the left front in the same way, reversing the side of the increases.
When both front pieces reach the same height, make a cord of ch 113 (127, 140, 157, 170, 180) between them on the side of the increases to join the two parts, then continue working the front and back together.
Continue in fantasy stitch following the chart. Work the fronts as they are and repeat from to along the chain.
On row 21(22, 23, 24, 25, 25), counted from the straight section at the beginning of the front, introduce an increase following the chart, at 56 (63, 70, 76, 84, 91) sts from each edge.
Add another increase in the same alignment as the previous one on row 41 (42, 43, 44, 45, 45).
On row 48 (49, 50, 51, 52, 52), introduce another increase following the chart, in the same alignment as the previous one, from each edge and at the center back.
Continue working straight. At 100(104, 106, 110, 114, 118)cm | 39.25 (41, 41.75, 43.25, 45, 46.50)in from the beginning, work one row in sc and bind-off.
Straps – Make a foundation of ch54 (56, 59, 62, 64, 68) + ch1 to turn and work in sc. for 8 rows, then bind-off. Make 2 identical straps.
Or cast on stitches according to the size you want your straps to be.
Finishing – Work 4 rows in sc. along the left front edge and bind-off.
Repeat on the right front, but in the 2nd row, evenly distribute 14 buttonholes (ch 2, skip 2 sc from the previous row; in the next row, work 2 sc into the chain space).
Place the first buttonhole 1cm / 0.4in from the neckline, with the remaining ones spaced 3 cm / 1.2 in apart. Sew the buttons on the left edge, aligning them with the buttonholes.
Work one row of sc along the upper edge of the dress and bind-off.
Sew the straps to the front, on the side of the increases, and to the back, 15 cm / 6 in from each armhole.
Line the dress, leaving the front edges (4 rows of sc) unlined. Leave the lining loose at the bottom and secure the rest to the dress.
