Level of difficulty: Beginner

Pattern Notes

This top is worked in two pieces: a front panel and a back panel. After completing both pieces, you will sew the two pieces together, add the straps, work the edging around the straps and neckline, and then finish with the border along the bottom.

The front panel starts with the triangle cups and is worked downward. The back panel is intentionally worked to a different size than the front panel for aesthetic purposes, allowing the front stripes to be seen from sides and back of the garment while wearing it.

The entire top is made up of single crochet stitches, with the border being half double crochet and some double crochet.

Once you have both of your triangle pieces completed you will now be working on the bottom half of the top. You will start by making a chain.

S (M, L, XL, 2X)

Row 1: Ch 10 (15, 15, 20, 20), grab one of your triangle pieces and working along the bottom place one sc in each st across, then ch 3, grab your other triangle piece and working along the bottom place one sc in each st across, then ch 11 (16, 16, 21, 21). Turn.

Row 2-8: 1 sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn.

Switch to Sugar Pop

Row 9-12: 1 sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn.

Switch to Charme

Row 13-16: 1 sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn.

Switch to Sugar Pop

Row 17-20: 1 sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat sequence, changing colors every four rows until you reach desired length, ending with your last 4 rows of Sugar Pop.

Once you have your desired length, finish off and weave in ends. Then move on to the back piece.

Back Instructions

With Charne yarn

S (M, L, XL 2X)

Ch 65 (80, 80, 90, 90)

Row 1: 1 sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat Row 1 until you have the same amount of rows as your front piece (just the bottom part, do not include the triangle piece rows in this count).

Place your back piece and front piece together and whip stitch the side seams together.

Strap Instructions

Attach Sugar Pop yarn to the top of one of the triangle pieces. Ch 65, place 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch back across. Place a sl st into the top of the triangle piece where you began. Repeat on the other side.

Criss cross your straps in the back and sew them in your desired location.

Top Border Instructions

With Charme, attach in any st along the back of your piece. Ch 2.

Round 1: Place 1 hdc in each st, making a hdc dec every 6th st, so you will do 5 hdc, then 1 hdc dec over the next two sts, you will repeat that all the way around except for the actual straps. You will do this down and up the sides of the triangle pieces as well. I do not have st counts here as it will be different for everyone, you just want an even looking amount of decreases around. The reason for this is because cotton tends to loosen and stretch out easily, so adding some decreases will tighten things up a bit. Once you make your way all the way around the top, join with a sl st in the top of the first hdc. Switch to Sugar Pop. Ch 2.

Round 2: Repeat Row 1, making a hdc dec every 6th st (except for the straps themselves). Join with a sl st in the top of the first hdc. Finish off, weave in ends.

Bottom Border Instructions

With Charme, attach in one of the seams on either side with a sl st.

Round 1: Ch 4, sk 2, 1 sc in the next st, repeat from to across. Join with a sl st in the first ch of the beginning ch 4. Finish off.

Add Sugar Pop in the ch 4 sp you ended on.

Round 2:  Ch 4,  sc in the next ch 4 sp, repeat from to across. Join with a sl st in the first ch of the beginning ch 4. Finish off.

Add Charme in the ch 4 sp you ended on.

Round 3:  Ch 4,  sc in the next ch 4 sp, repeat from to across. Join with a sl st in the first ch of the beginning ch 4. Finish off.

Add Sugar Pop in the ch 4 sp you ended on.

Round 4: Ch 1, [1 sc, 1 dc, 1 sc] in the ch 4 sp, [1 sc, 1 dc, 1 sc] in the next ch 4 sp, repeat from to in each sp around. Join with a sl st in the first sc. Finish off, weave in ends.
