Execution

Placemat: uses the carried yarn technique. In this technique, work with 2 or more yarns in the same row, changing colors according to Diagram 1. To change color, pull the last 2 loops on the hook with the new color, and hide the other yarn over the previous row, between the stitches of the new color.

With Barroco Natural 4/6 in color Natural, start with 72 ch + 1 turning ch.

1st row: turn the work and, starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, work 72 sc.

2nd to 5th rows: start with 1 ch, work 72 sc.

6th row: join Encanto yarn in Liquid Gold and lay it over the base row. With Barroco Natural in color Natural, start with 1 ch, work 6 sc, switch to Encanto in Liquid Gold and work 60 sc, switch back to Barroco Natural 4/6 in Natural and work 6 sc.

Continue following Diagram 1, working in rows back and forth, making the color changes as indicated. Fasten off.

Make 2 identical pieces.

Finishing: join Encanto yarn in Liquid Gold at one of the corners.

1st row: At the corner, work 1 sc, 2 ch, and 1 sc in the same base st; along the side, work 1 sc in each base st, repeat from to around the entire piece, join with a sl st.

2nd row: sl st to the 2 ch of the corner, then at the corner, work 4 ch, 2 dtrc tog, 2 ch, 3 dtrc tog, 2 ch, and 3 dtrc tog in the same base space, 2 ch, skip 1 base st; along the side, work 3 dtrc tog, 2 ch, skip 2 base sts; at the next corner, skipping 1 base st, work 3 dtrc tog, 2 ch, 3 dtrc tog, 2 ch, and 3 dtrc tog in the same base space, 2 ch, skip 1 base st, repeat from to around the entire piece, join with a sl st.

Continue following Diagram 2, working in rounds, fasten off. Work the same way on both pieces.
