See environmental guidelines CHECK OUT OUR STORY Circulo achievements and history 1935 São Paulo, Brazil – Leopoldo Jorge Theodoro Schmalz graduated in textile mechanics in Germany, developed machines to be used in the future yarn factory. 1935 Schmalz & Círculo – Swiss blood and Brazilian heart are not only synonyms of work, overcoming and pioneering but also a dignified example of courage and confidence in the future. 1936 São Paulo, Brazil – Circulo sewing threads, embroider floss and ribbons were sold by Leopoldo. 1937 Circulo was moved to Gaspar, a city in the countryside of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The affection between Leopoldo and his sister Lucia (Gasparense merchant Júlio Schramm’s wife) brought Circulo to Gaspar. 1937 Júlio Schramm (Gaspar) and Willy Schossland (Sao Francisco do Sul) became partners of their brother-in-law Leopoldo J. T. Schmalz factory, Picture: Leopoldo J. T. Schmalz, Júlio Schramm and Willy Schossland. 1938 The dream of producing yarn for handcraft comes true. The company "Leopoldo Schmalz & Cia Ltda" was born on 01/23/1938. In the photo, the house provided by Julius Schramm for the factory installation at 342, Cel Aristiliano Ramos street. 1938 January – Leopoldo started the "workshop" for the manufacture of "Mouline (embroidery floss) and "Cerzir" (sewing threads) and "Fitilho" (ribbons) at Círculo in Gaspar, Brazil with the help of a small mechanical lathe and an electric emery. 1940 Círculo receives the "Grand Prize – Gold Medal" at the Santa Catarina Sample Fair. Cerzir threads (for socks) and Mouline (for embroidery). 1940 Círculo threads are highlights in handcraft fairs of the most renowned schools in Brazil. 1942 Construction of the new facilities at 360, Dr. Nereu Ramos street, and prospects for a lot of growth. 1943 In the "new factory" 23 more employees were hired, 45 workers in total. It was time to double production. 1944 World War II crisis. Prohibition of machinery import and rationing of fuel and electricity. Círculo comes out ahead with technology, developed by its founder, steam-powered and with stationary engines already installed. 1946 All 68 Circulo employees posed for the historical photo. 1946 The trajectory of "Círculo" (1938-1946) deeply marked the Gasparense society. There is demand for urban lots; Trade was boosted by the movement of biweekly wages; There is greater interest in knowledge and personal appearance; New industries have emerged and the urban landscape changes with the construction of the new main church. 1947 POST-WAR The company "Leopoldo Schmalz & Cia" was renamed "Leopoldo Schmalz S/A thread Industry". Círculo products obtain extraordinary acceptance in the Brazilian market. Ribbons, strings, embroider floss, knit and crochet yarns and also mercerized threads for sewing in ninety colors. 1948 Clea and Anne, female names of Germanic origin make crochet fashion history. Release of “Glace” sewing thread black and white on wooden spool was a success in record time. 1949 Study and assembly of Circulo’s own yarn twisting machine. 1949 New dyeing processes with bleach, mercerize machine, Indigo process, drying oven and sterilizing machine. 1952 Circulo occupies an enviable position. In addition to having its own resources to develop its products, it also serves the regional manufacturing park, through services provided by the mechanical workshop and welding (Circulo’s starting point) carpentry, typography and dyeing. 1961 Centenary of Gaspar’s Parish. Círculo is the highlight in the city’s agro-industrial expo. 1963 Circulo celebrates its 25th anniversary. 1967 Círculo takes the biggest step towards self-sufficiency, producing its own yarns, from feather cotton. 1968 Acquisition of a manual injector for the manufacture of cones, spatulas, rims and plastic spools. It was the embryo of "Plasvale”, a sister company founded in 1977. 1968 Circulo’s product quality control guarantees 100% of products made with feather cotton.
