Cl - cluster stitch  Yarn over and insert your hook into the chosen stitch or chain space.

  • Yarn over, insert hook in the space or stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook).

  • Yarn over and pull through the first 2 loops (1 unfinished double crochet made; 2 loops left on hook).

  • Repeat the above steps two more times in the exact same stitch or space. You will have 3 unfinished double crochets and 5 loops on your hook.

  • Yarn over and pull through all 5 loops at once to close the cluster.

Measurements

Before blocking, one side of your piece should measure about 30” from the top corner down to the center. After blocking it will be about 32.5”.

The finished, blocked piece measures 40” across at the widest part of the piece when laying flat.

From the top center of the neck down the button center is 30”.

Notes

The poncho is worked in two pieces - one front and one back piece that are identical. The triangular pieces are worked from the top down, getting larger as each row increases.

If you are using two colors like in this pattern: When switching colors, there is no need to cut your yarn, just drop the color you are using and add the next color. You will switch every third row so you can just carry your yarn up the side.

After both pieces are completed, I recommend blocking them and then assembling.

To assemble, whip stitch the tops of the triangular pieces together where the shoulders are, leaving an opening for the neckline. Then you will add the neckline, which is a series of decreasing rows. Then you will add a simple bottom border.

*Please be mindful of recognizing your stitches when going through the pattern.

*Move stitch marker up every row.
