NOCTURNAL SHAWL


Skill Level: Advanced


Size: One Size


Materials: Bohemia (0.88 oz / 25 g), 4 balls in color 8990 (Black); US 3 (3.0 mm) Bamboo circular needle with stainless steel cable (31.5 in / 80 cm); Tracing paper; Pencil; Scissors; Measuring tape.

Knitting Stitches Used:

Shawl base: 1st row: 3 k., 1 yo, 3 k. tog., 1 yo, rep. from to. 2nd row: 1 yo, 3 k. tog., 1 yo, 3 k., rep. from to. Shawl side ruffle: 1st and 4th rows: knit. 2nd row: purl. 3rd row: (2 k. tog. – 3 x), (1 yo, 1 k. – 6 x), (2 k. tog. – 3 x), rep. from to.


Gauge: A 3.9 in (10 cm) square in the shawl base stitch using a US 3 (3.0 mm) circular needle = 18 sts. x 28 rows. A 3.9 in (10 cm) square in the shawl ruffle stitch using a US 3 (3.0 mm) circular needle = 18 sts. x 32 rows.


Instructions: Transfer the pattern pieces onto tracing paper to use as a reference when making the piece. Observe the arrows in the measurement chart indicating the direction of the work. Shawl: Using Bohemia yarn in Black, cast on 3 sts on a US 3 (3.0 mm) circular needle. Begin the piece at the lower edge, working in wrong-side and right-side rows (back and forth). Follow chart 1 (1st and 2nd sections – 1st to 7th rows). Then continue following chart 1 (3rd section – 8th to 224th rows).


Note: The shawl side ruffle stitch begins from the 205th row.


Finishing: Using a tapestry needle, weave in the ends of the yarn tails. Block the shawl, shaping it to the approximate measurements shown in the measurement chart.
