Stitches Used:

Knitting:

- 1x1 Rib: k1, p1 to end of round.

- Garter Stitch: Knit all rows.

- Stockinette Stitch: Knit on the right side, purl on the wrong side.

- M1 (Make 1): Lift the strand between stitches from front to back, knit through the back loop to twist and avoid a hole.

Crochet:

- Chain Stitch (ch).

- Single Crochet (SC): Insert the hook in both loops of the stitch below, yarn over, pull through, yarn over again, and pull through both loops on the hook.

Gauge: 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm) square in stockinette stitch with 5.5 mm needles = 14 sts x 19 rows.

Size 2 Years

Back

Cast on 53 sts using 5.5 mm needles. Work in garter stitch for 1 1/4” (3 cm). Switch to stockinette stitch. When work measures 13” (33 cm) from the beginning, switch to 4.5 mm needles. On the first row with the new needles, increase 8 stitches evenly across the row as follows:- Work 5 sts, M1, work 5 sts; repeat to end (final repeat may have fewer stitches); total 61 sts.Continue in 1x1 rib. When work measures 15” (38 cm) from the beginning, shape the armholes by decreasing at each side as follows:- Row 1 (RS): Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows.- Rows 3 & 5 (RS): Decrease 1 st at each edge (k2tog at beginning, ssk at end).Continue in 1x1 rib until the piece measures 20” (51 cm) from the beginning. Bind off all sts.

Front

Work as for back until the piece measures 18” (45.75 cm) from the beginning. Bind off the center 21 sts for the neckline and work both sides separately in 1x1 rib. When work measures 20” (51 cm) from the beginning, bind off all stitches for each shoulder.

Finishing

Sew the shoulders and side seams. Using a 4.0 mm crochet hook, work 1 round of single crochet around the neckline and each armhole. Fasten off and weave in all ends

Size 4 Years

Back

Cast on 57 sts using 5.5 mm needles. Work in garter stitch for 1 1/4” (3 cm). Switch to stockinette stitch. When work measures 14” (35.5 cm) from the beginning, switch to 4.5 mm needles. On the first row with the new needles, increase 8 stitches evenly across the row as follows:- Work 6 sts, M1, work 6 sts; repeat to end (final repeat may have fewer stitches); total 65 sts.Continue in 1x1 rib. When work measures 16” (40.5 cm) from the beginning, shape the armholes by decreasing at each side as follows:- Row 1 (RS): Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows.- Rows 3 & 5 (RS): Decrease 1 st at each edge (k2tog at beginning, ssk at end).Continue in 1x1 rib until the piece measures 21” (53.5 cm) from the beginning. Bind off all sts.

Front

Work as for back until the piece measures 19” (48.25 cm) from the beginning. Bind off the center 23 sts for the neckline and work both sides separately in 1x1 rib. When work measures 21” (53.5 cm) from the beginning, bind off all stitches for each shoulder.

Finishing

Sew the shoulders and side seams. Using a 4.0 mm crochet hook, work 1 round of single crochet around the neckline and each armhole. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Size 6 Years

Back

Cast on 61 sts using 5.5 mm needles. Work in garter stitch for 1 1/4” (3 cm). Switch to stockinette stitch. When work measures 15” (38 cm) from the beginning, switch to 4.5 mm needles. On the first row with the new needles, increase 8 stitches evenly across the row as follows:- Work 7 sts, M1, work 7 sts; repeat to end (final repeat may have fewer stitches); total 69 sts.Continue in 1x1 rib. When work measures 17” (43 cm) from the beginning, shape the armholes by decreasing at each side as follows:- Row 1 (RS): Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows.- Rows 3 & 5 (RS): Decrease 1 st at each edge (k2tog at beginning, ssk at end).Continue in 1x1 rib until the piece measures 22” (56 cm) from the beginning. Bind off all sts.

Front

Work as for back until the piece measures 20” (51 cm) from the beginning. Bind off the center 25 sts for the neckline and work both sides separately in 1x1 rib. When work measures 22” (56 cm) from the beginning, bind off all stitches for each shoulder.

Finishing

Sew the shoulders and side seams. Using a 4.0 mm crochet hook, work 1 round of single crochet around the neckline and each armhole. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
